About us

Finding inspiration at every turn

At INTBAU Mexico, we believe that traditional architecture and urban planning are not relics of the past, but rather constantly evolving cultural expressions. Our ethos is based on cultural preservation and purposeful architectural adaptation, drawing from pre-Hispanic heritage, the conquest, and the contemporary era, learning through exchange, craftsmanship as culture, and community-centered design.

Mexican Commitment

In the face of the globalization of architecture and urban planning, the Mexican chapter is committed to supporting, on the one hand, the conservation and restoration activities of heritage that safeguard the identity of a community and, on the other hand, the creation of new buildings and traditional places that offer their inhabitants more durable, comfortable, beautiful and harmonious spaces.

INTBAU Mexico was founded by Flavio Díaz Mirón Rodríguez and Nadia Samir Rincón in January 2023 with the goal of bringing the initiatives of the INTBAU network closer to Mexico, as well as to the Spanish-speaking countries of America.

About us

Ethics of INTBAU Mexico

At INTBAU Mexico, we believe that traditional architecture and urban planning are not relics of the past, but rather constantly evolving cultural expressions. Our ethos is based on cultural preservation and purposeful architectural adaptation, drawing from pre-Hispanic heritage, the conquest, and the contemporary era, learning through exchange, craftsmanship as culture, and community-centered design.

Key axes:

  • Preservation with Purpose: Protecting and revitalizing traditional techniques and patterns, adapting them to contemporary contexts.

  • Learning through exchange: Fostering dialogue between architects, artisans, academics and communities, locally and internationally.

  • Craftsmanship as Culture: Valuing what is handmade, durable and beautiful, recognizing architecture as an artistic and civic duty.

  • Community-Centered Design: Prioritizing human scale, ecological responsibility, and cultural identity in every project.

Mission

INTBAU Mexico connects architects, artisans, urban planners, academics, and communities to preserve, teach, and apply traditional architecture and urbanism. We promote craftsmanship, cultural exchange, and people-centered urban design, disseminating practices that combine heritage, beauty, and sustainability.

Vision

To promote traditional architecture and urban planning in Mexico as the foundation for a sustainable, humane, and culturally robust future. We envision compact, walkable, beautiful, and resilient cities where heritage is preserved and experienced as an active part of contemporary life.

Goals

  • Preserve and revitalize traditional building techniques, materials, and urban patterns.

  • Promote education through workshops, conferences, summer schools and publications.

  • To support and give visibility to artisans who keep traditional techniques alive.

  • Integrate Mexico into the INTBAU global network, sharing knowledge and experiences.

  • Promote urban plans that encourage walkability, mixed land use, beauty and local identity.

  • To promote research and documentation of traditional architecture and urban planning.

  • Involving communities in the design and care of their built environment.

  • Raising awareness of the cultural, social and environmental value of traditional architecture.
